  1. The linked story is by Associated Press … not BusinessWeek. BW just republished it. Surely there must somewhere be a more comprehensive and insightful account.

    When I joined IBM (1988), the company actively discouraged the nickname … but still sued to prevent a NY winery from using the name “Big Blue.” I’ll bet there are some interesting recollections of Armonk veterans who can recount the company’s transition from resistance to acquiescence to exploitation of “Big Blue.”
